Air Cooled Disc Clutches & Brakes

 

Eaton's Airflex DB Spring-Applied Brake products are disc style brakes that are spring-applied and air-released. The DBB torque capacities and heat dissipation characteristics make them ideal for high speed cyclic applications. The DBA and DBBS designs are ideal for non-cyclic applications because of their high energy capacities. 

 

Airflex DC Clutches & Brakes are air-applied units available in multiple-disc designs. They feature a favorable torque to size ratio and low inertia friction disc assemblies. 

 

Product Sizing

 

Air cooled element brake sizes are indicated by the number of brake/friction discs and the disc diameter in inches. For instance, a size 229DBA has two discs 29 inches in diameter.

DBA

 

Airflex DBA disc style brakes are spring-applied and air or hydraulically released. Brake discs are either solid or ventilated. Solid brake discs are used in applications requiring a heat sink and/or where engagement is infrequent. Ventilated discs are recommended for high speed cyclic applications. Equal torque is developed in either direction of rotation.

 

FEATURES:

 

  • DBA elements feature large friction areas which allow the brakes to absorb and dissipate high energy loads associated with high cyclic and high inertia stops.

  • DBA elements are available with either solid or ventilated brake discs.

  • DBA elements require minimum adjustment for lining wear. Single disk units require no wear adjustment and dual disc units require only one wear adjustment during the long life of the friction material.

DBB

 

Airflex DBB disc style brakes are spring-applied and air or hydraulically released. Their torque capacities and heat dissipation characteristics make them ideal for cyclic applications. Equal torque is developed in either direction of rotation.

 

FEATURES:

 

  • The DBB element features a low inertia friction disc assembly which reduces the overall inertia that must be stopped.

  • The DBB element also features optional split friction discs. This allows for the removal of friction discs without disturbing other components of the drive system in mid-shaft brake arrangement.

  • DBB elements feature long wearing, self lubrication PolyPak seals which eliminate premature twisting failure and require no external lubrication.

  • Static Torque Capacities* Up To: 2,535,750 lb·in, 286.524 N·m

  • Typical Applications: Bottling equipment, power shovels, conveyors, shears, power presses

DBBS

 

Airflex DBBS disc style brakes are spring-applied and air or hydraulically released.  The DBBS style is offered in applications requiring higher speed operation or where precise balance of the rotating components is required. Their torque capacities and heat dissapation characteristics make them ideal of high speed, non-cyclic applications.  Equal torque is developed in either direction of rotation.

DC

 

Airflex DC clutches and brakes are available in single and multiple disc designs. They feature a favorable torque to size ratio and low inertia friction disc assemblies.

 

FEATURES:

 

  • DC type elements are physically smaller than most other type clutches and brakes with the same torque capacity.

  • DC elements feature a low inertia friction disk assembly which reduces the overall inertia that must be started or stopped.

  • DC elements have an option for split friction disks which allow for removal of the friction disks without disturbing other components of the drive system in mid-shaft element arrangement.

  • The DC element features a long wearing, self lubricating PolyPak seal which eliminates premature twisting failure and requires no external lubrication.

FHB

 

Eaton Airflex has introduced a revolutionary new design in disc brake technology called the Floating Housing Brake (FHB). The spring applied (power off), air‐cooled disc brake is well suited for applications in Surface Mining, Oilfield and other heavyduty industrial machinery designs. The FHB is an air cooled spring applied brake with exceptional friction life and rapid friction replacement capability. It is supplied with long wearing, organic friction material and a rugged solid cast, rotating disc that provides lower inertia than typical caliper brakes.
