Water Cooled Brakes

 

Airflex Water Cooled Brakes are available in four different models; WCB2, WCBD, WCS, and WCSB. The WCB2/WCBD line was designed for applications requiring high horsepower absorption and features brakes that are air-applied. The WCS line was designed specifically for continuous slip service, to absorb and disappate thermal loads associated with the most severe clutch and brake applications. The WCSB line was designed for dynamic tensioning, static holding and emergency stopping in one complete brake. This line features brakes with water-cooled and air-cooled friction discs in one brake that is both pressure and spring-applied.

 

Product Sizing

 

Water cooled element sizes are indicated by the number of friction discs and the disc diameter in inches. For instance, size 224WCB has two friction discs 24 inches in diameter.

WCB2 & WCBD

 

Airflex WCB2 and WCBD products are disc type, externally cooled units. They are designed to absorb and dissipate the thermal loads associated with the most severe clutch and brake applications and feature: 

 

Friction couple developed for continuous slip service

Dynamic coefficient of friction that is greater than its static coefficient of friction.

Special high coefficient linings which provide 50% higher torque

1:1 dynamic to static torque ratio.

 

FEATURES:

 

  • The Water cooled products feature a specially formulated friction material, interfacing with a copper alloy surface, which eliminates the stick-slip characteristic associated with ordinary frictional devices.

  • The Water cooled products work equally well with open or closed loop circulating systems. On mobile equipment, the engine's cooling system can be tapped to provide coolant to the element.

  • A unique dual piston design for improved controlability is available.

WCS

 

Airflex WCS elements are disc type, externally cooled, spring applied units. They are designed to absorb and dissipate the thermal loads associated with the most severe braking and tensioning applications. The WCS friction couple was developed specifically for continuous slip service and has a dynamic coefficient of friction which is larger than its static coefficient of friction.

  • The WCS element features a special high coefficient lining which provides 50% higher torque than standard friction linings and provides a 1:1 dynamic to static torque ration.

WCSB

 

Airflex WCSB elements are air applied, water and air cooled, multiple disc brakes designed for heavy-duty brake/tensioning applications. They are similar to the WCB line except for a feature that allows for greater control of the braking/tensioning function.

 

FEATURES:

 

The WCB element features dynamic tensioning, static holding and emergency stopping which are provided by one brake removing the need for multiple braking systems

The WCB element also features a specially formulated friction material, interfacing with a copper alloy surface which eliminates the stick-slip characteristics associated with the ordinary frictional devices.
